World Cup 2014 Power Rankings

brazil-worldcup-2014Exactly one year from today will be the day soccer fans from around the world have been waiting for for the past 3 years. On June 12, 2014 World Cup 2014 will be taking place in one of the most soccer enriched cultures on the planet, Brazil! There is a lot of excitement going into this World Cup as we have many up and coming nations that have shown much presence in the past couple of years. We have youthful teams like Belgium and Brazil, supercharged teams like Argentina, Spain, Germany, and teams that have much potential like Colombia, and Japan.

Here are my Top Ten Power Rankings for the 2014 WC

1. Spain

2. Germany

3. Argentina

4. Netherlands

5. Brazil

6. Belgium

7. Italy

8. Colombia

9. Japan

10. Croatia

Spain are on the top of my list of course because we all know who they are and what they have accomplished in the past 7 years: 2 European Championships, 1 World Cup Championship. What are the chances they can make history again and win 2 World Cups consecutively? I’d say not as high as last competition but, who knows this team creates miracles and are still relatively as strong as the were years before.

Now of course Brazil has not been the Brazil we all knew and loved in past generations with the youthful Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Robinho group but, this group is young and ready to defend their nation as host of this cup. I can see them at least getting to the elimination round and making it pretty far. Neymar has a lot of pressure on him going into this recently being traded to power house FC Barcelona. He is expected to lead his team to many wins this competition and I do not doubt that every single one of those brazilian fans believe they can win it all.

Now if you are surprised to see Japan in my top ten do not be alarmed. I am not saying they have a good chance to win it all but, I wouldn’t count these kids out. With leadership from Kagawa coming off a wonderful season with league champions Manchester United and with help from Honda and Okazaki, they have a pretty powerful attacking force.

Nonetheless this is going to be an amazing world cup and we will see if the true stars step up for their countries to bring back the silverware. Final four prediction – Brazil, Spain, Germany, Belgium.

What is your top ten for the 2014 World Cup? Comment it below we would love to hear!

  1. Brazil, Spain and Argentina are probably the only teams that can win it all. Local, best team of the world and the with the best player in the world. Germany, Italy and Colombia will go far but will loose.

  2. I agree with you on the first three especially after the performance Brazil put on today but, Germany still has a strong argument to be up there with the other three they are a very solid team and have consistently proven to be one of the most dangerous teams in the past several years. The only slip up was that against the United States but, they did not utilize all of their starters that game.
